It is never too late to start choosing nutritious foods, to allow yourself some downtime or a fun hobby, to start moving your body (even if it’s from a chair). It is never too late to start feeling healthier.

Today’s Healthy Dose – Kale
I just don’t like it.
Luckily, I can get all those same vitamins and minerals from eating a wide variety of fruit and veggies that I do like! Who’d a thought?
Today’s Healthy Dose – Double Whammy
Most processed foods will get you coming and going. Coming, they offer virtually no nutrition to support healthy cell function. Going, they assault the body with damaging toxins. No matter how you look at it, they’re really a lose-lose.
Today’s Healthy Dose – A.K.A. Sugar
Did you know that there are over sixty covert aliases for processed sugary invaders on our food labels? Sixty!
But we have the power to look past ingredient deception to the the carbohydrate section of the label where it says “sugar”. Be very wary of anything over 10 grams….
(or better yet, only eat foods that don’t come with a label)
Today’s Healthy Dose – Synthetic Cellulose
Naturally occurring cellulose, the kind you get from broccoli or celery, is a heart healthy soluble fiber. The cellulose found in items like pre-packaged shredded cheese and salad dressings is synthesized from wood pulp. Yum. And heart healthy? Not so much.
Today’s Healthy Dose – Healthy Bees, Healthy Food
Honey bees are responsible for 80% of all pollination, and they ensure we get to enjoy some of our most nutritious foods. But they are just as afraid of us, as we are of them, so don’t swat, give them something to do instead. Long season or year round flowering plants that are native to your region will keep them hard at work and healthy too.
Time to plant some flowers?
Today’s Healthy Dose – Doritos as Fuel
You heard me. But I didn’t mean as fuel for a healthy body, I meant actual fuel. Apparently, in a pinch, you could light a fire or start a bar-b-que with Doritos (or any other product ending in ito – Cheetos, Fritos, etc.)
A tip that is both potentially helpful and disturbing.
Today’s Healthy Dose – Poor Poultry
Many chickens are crowded together, sitting in their own feces, spreading salmonella and other diseases, feeding on antibiotic and pesticide laced genetically modified corn and soy, depleted of essential vitamins and minerals, with no outdoor access, and no light. Then they’re injected with a yummy salt and preservative cocktail to “boost” flavor during processing.
Remember the saying you are what you eat? When it comes to chicken, buy organic.
Today’s Healthy Dose – Beta Glue Cans
Sorry, no glue cans here. We’re talking beta-glucans: a type of fiber found in baker’s yeast, mushrooms and many whole grains, like oats. Beta-glucans help to regulate the immune system and stimulate white blood cell production, playing a powerful role in your body’s protection against illnesses including cancer and infections.
No wonder you’ve been craving organic oatmeal cookies!
Today’s Healthy Dose – Shrooms Man
Mushrooms, the heavenly fungi, are rich in the entire range of B vitamins as well as Vitamin D, and Fiber. They also provide several elusive minerals like selenium, potassium, copper, and iron.
Sautéed in butter, stuffed with cheese and baked, sliced thin into a salad…holy shitake, they are tasty!
