They sprout in 3 days. They’re ready to use in a week. They are nutrient champs. You can add them to anything (think smoothies, soups, salads). And you can grow them in a sunny window all year long. What’s not to love?

Today’s Healthy Dose – Good News and Bad News
The good news is that with advancements in science and medicine, more people are living longer than ever before. The bad news is that with advancements in science and medicine, more people are living longer than ever before. With your current habits around food, movement and thought, what do your 90’s look like to you? Is it good news, or bad news?
Today’s Healthy Dose – Nutrient A-Peel
Fruits and veggies tend to have high concentrations of nutrients in their skin. Hence the vibrant display of color on their outerwear. In the US we tend to peel everything, wasting part of the produce and throwing valuable vitamins and minerals out with the trash. Next time you take the peeler out of that kitchen drawer, stop to think…can I leave the skin on?
Here are some appealing powerhouses that I don’t peel (provided they’re organic):
- Beets
- Potatoes
- Sweet Potatoes
- Carrots
- Cucumber
- Apples
- Pears
- Parsnips
- Eggplant
- Turnips
- Radishes (bet you saw that coming)
Today’s Healthy Dose – Kohlrabi
Granted, they look somewhat like vegetables from Mars, but Kohlrabi is high in fiber and really high in a wide range of vitamins. What to do with this strange looking delectable? I think you know what I’m going to say…. yes, cut them up and roast ’em! You’ll never know their deliciousness unless you try….
Today’s Healthy Dose – Radish Addict
A year ago I would have labeled myself as your average vegetable eater–mostly at dinner with the occasional salad for lunch. Then I set a goal to include veggies on my plate at every meal. Now, if we’re out of organic radishes for me to slice, salt and crunch on over breakfast, I actually feel cheated.
So…inquiring minds want to know… could radish addition actually be a thing? And what veggie that you love could you add to your breakfast tomorrow?
Today’s Healthy Dose – Roasted Veggies
Even vegetables you think you don’t like taste good roasted. And it’s so simple! Cut up some veggies, throw them on roasting pan, add a drizzle of high quality oil, a sprinkle of pure sea salt and freshly cracked pepper, and roast them at 400 degrees until caramelized. Once you try it, you might be surprised at how hard they are to resist.
Today’s Healthy Dose – The Life of Crash
Crash is our dog. He’s in peak physical condition. He never gets angry. And he has no stress. Crash eats nutritious food, runs, basks in the sun, curls into a warm blanket for naps, and snuggles up to as many people as he can find. Maybe he’s on to something…
Today’s Healthy Dose – Inspiration
We all have stuff we SHOULD do (like exercise). But inspiration often comes from doing the things we want to do (like baking avocado brownies), then tacking that should do stuff onto the end. You know, while you’re in the “doing” zone…
(Like getting those brownies into the oven, then walking for 20 minutes while you wait for them to bake. Brownies and exercise? It’s win-win!)
Today’s Healthy Dose – A Sweet Deal
Whether it’s white sugar, artificial sweeteners or raw natural sweeteners like honey and coconut sugar – in excess, they can all be harmful to your health. But in today’s world they’re nearly impossible to ditch altogether. Make a deal with yourself to indulge knowingly, modestly, and with the pure satisfaction of savoring every minute.
Just like life…it’s all about balance 🙂
Today’s Healthy Dose – Protect Your Plants
Soybean oil has been shown to kill many common insects that feast on our plants. Wait a minute…isn’t that the same oil used in literally millions of processed foods? Huhn.
